As you probably know, pasta is one of the most important meal in Italian cooking, so I couldn’t post a typical menu without it!
Spaghetti Alla Carbonara
Ingredients
1 pound of spaghetti
3 tablespoons of olive oil
3 eggs beaten
1/2 cup Pecorino Romano cheese
1/2 pound pancetta or bacon
Salt to taste
Preparation
In a large skillet cook pancetta or bacon (previously cut in small pieces) in oil until it becomes crisp. Bring 4-5 quarts of water to boil in a large pot and add a pinch of salt to it. In a bowl beat the eggs for 5 minutes, making sure the mixture is frothy enough . Cook spaghetti in the water (follow the directions on the box: spaghetti has to be “al dente”!). When the pasta is done drain it. Add it to the egg mixture, then add pancetta and Pecorino Romano. Toss the ingredients to ensure everything is thoroughly mixed.
That’s the real Roman recipe. It’s a very simple meal and easy to cook, but I can ensure you it’s simply marvellous!
Now, I’ m not too much into meat so the next one is a recipe which involves only vegetables.
Verdure gratinate
Ingredients
2 eggplants
2 yellow peppers
2 zucchini
A bowl of breadcrumbs
Herbs and garlic powder to taste
Preparation
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.Take all the vegetables and cut them in thin slices, then lay them in a baking pan previously oiled (again, use olive oil). Add herbs and garlic to the breadcrumbs, then put the mixture on every slice carefully. Add a trickle of oil on them, then bake the vegetables for 20- 30 minutes.
And finally, I suggest a very good recipe from Naples: “Struffoli”. This is a dessert we cook especially during the period of “Carnevale” (something like an Italian Halloween), and I love it!
Ingredients
2 cups flour
1/4 tsp. salt
3 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla or anise
1 cup honey
1 tablespoon sugar
Preparation
Make a well of flour and salt, then add the eggs one at a time. While mixing add vanilla, making a soft dough.Let it cool for 20 minutes. Knead and divide dough in halves, then cut them into strips. Roll each strip into round roll and cut them into small pieces. Fry them in deep oil till they’re lightly browned. Meanwhile cook honey and sugar in a pot for 5- 10 minutes. Drain your struffoli and coat it with honey mixture. Place it on plate, sprinkle with jimmies and let it chill.
Et voilĂ ! These are three of my favourite recipes. Hope you’ll love them like I do.

Bella,

In both Italian and Latin too please!!?

Every hour, on the hour.

So I'm not that creative with my own words! But I grandly love lyrics! And my tat guy wants my design for my other wrist on the same day as my next actual appointment! (This friday!) I was like, hey! Give me a minute! How many badass Italian's that speak Latin do YOU know!??? -He said I had a good point... ;p But he still wants the design! I've been running round to all the bookstores in town, to find some Art Nouveau books! It's amazing how many people have no idea what that is! >:( You would think at the very least the staff would have some clue! But no such luck! Anyway, I am thinking of buying some 'Learn to Speak' books. I didn't know Latin was a 'dead' (rude to put it that way in my opinion!) language! Although, rather nice that we all, no matter how cool we think we are -always have something left to learn! ;p I'm sure a book won't cover it too well, but it's a start yea??
Alrighty, if you don't have time (or you just find me bothersome!) ;p -then it's no prob Bella! And thank you again for the You Still Owe! Even my tat guy was impressed with it. "Oh, that is really pretty! I like that one!!" He had a total girl moment! It was sooo cute! ;p Thanks again! Hope you are grand Bella! Loves! -l/d
Hiya Bella!
I left you a comment somewhere* ;p But I wanted to stop by here and say thank you again! It really means a lot that would make such an effort to me! Like I said elsewhere -if Rome is full of people like you -I Am On My Way! (well, o.k. -wishful thinking! But when I plan my next oversea's vastly grand 'roadtrip' -I'll be sure to fit Italy in!) ;p Thank you again! Good luch on your upcoming exam! (I'm sure you'll rock it! No doubt!) Be well! And thank you thank you thank you! You're effort is SO appreciated! Loves to ya! -l/d ;p
Oh, ps. will be sure to drop ya some pics! I don't know how to do the linky thing, but I'll beg Far to try and teach me yet again! :p Loves!
Hiyaz Bella!
Of Course I wilL! ;p And anyone who comes near me -I stick my arm in their face and proclaim loudly that "My Italian friend Bella, that speaks Latin -she helped me with this most awesome tattoo -note the Italian AND Latin lyrics there! THAT'S from Bella!" Of course, I am getting strange looks from some of the folks I've never met before -but that is not really something new! ;p
I just wanted to say thanks again for helping me out Bella! It was really great of you! And no worries! I am SURE I will be bugging you again for more translations! ;p I will get you a picture of it when it's healed a little more attractively! ;) I still need one more session to fill in the back ground. But the words are beautiful! So thank you forever for that! I WILL always think of ya! Hope you are grand Bella! Loves to ya! -l/d
Bella, thank you so much for your comments on my blog. It means so much to me that so many people from my Family are there for me and offering support, love and advice. Please know you can always call on me or J. to do the same.
And I love the recipes too!
Love you,
L.
Howdy Bella! My favorite Italian! ;p I have a picture of my tat (thus far! It is NOT finished!
(^ Insert Angry Grr Face right there!) but I don't know how to link! :(
So give me a little while to figure something out! I have not forgotten you! I hope you are well Bella! (and I hope your exams went great! I've no doubt you aced 'em though!) I hope to catch you soon! Love to you Bellatrix! kiss! -<3333l/d
Many, many thanks for my birthday wishes, it was lovely to ' see ' you :)
I hope life is treating you well. Not long 'til New York!!
Take care sugar

Hey Bella!
Thank you for the well wishes at my blog! I am feeling better, and hope to be back at it soon.
How are you doing? I haven't seen you around too much lately, but then again, neither am I! :)
The recipes are great too. I can always use more!
Love you,
L.
bella!!
i think i just spotted at Mayo's that you are off to NYC!!!
have a wonderful, wonderful time!
i am sure you will.
take care and *big hugs*!!
Bella, I just realized now that Struffoli is what my Mom's co-workers made every year for Christmas at the place she worked at. She'll be delighted to have this recipe.

Hello Bella!
I'm sad I missed you earlier! But I just wanted to say thank you again for giving me the translations! I absolutely love no one knowing what my arm says! ;p And it's so much more beautiful in other languages! I do so appreciate you doing that for me Bella. And I so happy to finally get to show you the finished product of your efforts(via FASC! Thanks!)! Oh and the "ancora debitori" will be much better seen again once it is all healed up! Everything is very wabbly and swollen. But I could barely feel it this last time, actually! Was kind of fantastic! I kept thinking --- is he even doing anything? Is he teasing me!? It was an awesome finish for my tat! And I really, have no one to thank but you Bella! So again -Thank You so much! I wish I could do something more than just a simple thanks, but I do so mean it! Once more -for good measure - I am so grateful Bella!! (I would have been walking around with absolute nonsense on my arm for the rest of my life! It would be funny, but not really! ha!) ;p
Much love and appreciation Bella! I hope you are doing so grand in everything! Please drop me a note when you get a chance. I am terrible about getting back to people, but I will eventually! Thanks! <333 des/lewis
Hiyaz Bella!
So awesome to hear from ya! And very glad to hear that things are going well yea?? I hope that goes for school as well!?
Thanks for what you said about my tat! I was really getting sick of looking at it all empty -quite a change now! My guy is very slow and delicate with his ink on me, as I have (well, out of the few that I have..) one on my ankle that is just awful to me! It is very "Heavy," if you will. So my tat guy makes a grand effort to make things as detailed and feminine as possible for me. He's just killer at his job!
There is a hell of a lot going on in that thing! A story I had obsessed about since I was a kid, a movie I worshiped, a little joke at myself, a few metaphors, iconic ideals, a little bit of "never forget's" and even some self realization! It's pure crazy! I'm so glad you asked Bella! I'd hate for anyone (especially my friends!) to think it was just a stamp! Ha ha! All of my tattoo's do have grand meaning in them (to me). But that particular one, is obviously the biggest -and most complicated, in design and meaning. It's a bunch of tiny ideas and wants smooshed together...It took a long time for me and my guy to 'work it out/agree' on it. He won't ink anything HE doesn't like! Such a Drama Queen. ;p but I do appreciate and trust his thoughts on that. I don't want to walk around with something not looking the best it could, because I wasn't flexable about moving it! It's there forever ya know!!
My other tats are simply, I saw it, it rather embodied something that meant something quietly to me and so I got it inked. But this one really is the most special. And seriously, a lot of effort and thought went into -of course You know this! You went into it too Bella!! I will never forget that!
I think that is awesome that you want to get one too! My only advice on that is make sure you find an Artist, not just an Inker. There is a HUGE (and oh so ugly...my ankle..) difference! My guy I have now is a real artist, which is why he is so bitchy about my wants! ha! I mean, even my shoulder tat, it is very pretty and I have loved it beyond all others (till my new one!) but comparing the two? My shoulder is rather blurry. The lines are thicker. It's just not as clear or beautiful. And my guy now even touched it up. But once it is there -it is THERE. So be very mindful of what you REALLY want to see for the rest of your life.
When I first get them, I start to panic. Like, what the hell was I thinking?? Do I want to look at that forever? Are people gonna judge me? What if I change my mind?? It's kind of insane for a few days, seriously. But then all of a sudden I just kind of don't see them anymore. It's like they became part of my skin, and it never occured to me to see them otherswise. I will tell you, all of my other tattoo's I can keep well covered. This one, is Quite visible. And people's immediate attitudes toward me are very different now Bella. I rather have to prove my manners, in the least -ya know? It shouldn't matter what people think of your appearence, but you do have to think of the work environment too. I have been making "gauntlet's" (long fabric cuffs) to wear for work.
And well, you can get whatever you want. But I would recommend getting something (if I haven't scared you yet!) that really does mean something to you. That will make it so much more enjoyable to look at Bella. And having that realized meaning to you right there for you to see, always, will also (I feel!) make you appreciate it ever more. I'm sure no one needs a reminder of what certain things mean to them, but what's wrong with a little piece of art, that is special to you, to take with you always?? ;p
Honestly, the very first idea that pops into your head, will probably be the one you will want the most over anything else. I didn't follow my gut on that and now I am trying to figure out a way to fix my ankle, with my original idea. I just didn't think such detail and design was possible. If you are really interested I would suggest reading up on it a bit, the process I mean. You could look into some sites online too, see what people have done in the field. It is really amazing how intense some of the ink out there is. And at the very least it's cool and fascinating to look at! Well, at least for me! ;p
Obviously, I like tattoo's! But I am very particular too! And I can't thank you enough for all your awesome help Bella! I really do appreciate it so much! I wish you the best in your endeavor with that Bella! And hey, please let me know if you have any questions or anything like that. I'd be so excited to offer up anything for ya! I owe you! And Please, if you do get one, share some pics! I Love to look at what people have done!! Best of luck with that Bella -and school too! I hope that is all going well. Say hello to Rome for me! ;p Love to you! Thanks so much again!!

Ciao Bella, it's been a very long long time since I seen you at Mayo's :(
I hope you're well *hugs*
Hi there Bella!
I'm doing alright, hanging in there. I'm a bit sick, but trying to deal with it, and with my stress. And surprisingly, I have some guy problems, how about that?
Right now I'm continuing my job and apartment search. Hopefully i'll find something before my upcoming birthday.
I hope you're well *hugs*
Hi Bella!!
I am so sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner. I am easily distracted and then time runs out and I'm kicked off the computer.
It was so awesome to read you! It seems like forever! I miss you!
Had a few conversations about Absinthe, and I always think of you! It's funny how much each of you come to mind in various situations. I giggle to myself and I get strange looks but that's okay. I love it!
How are you? How have you been?
Hope to talk to you very soon!
♥ you.
HAPPY CHRISTMAS BELLA!!

Hi Bella!
Hey honey, we've been getting news, here in NZ, of your large earthquake, further north in l'Aquila.
The reports are mentioning the quake was felt in Rome.
I hope all your close and extended family, and of course, yourself, are all safe and well.
Hope to see signs of you soon.
xoxo
And Far - freaky!
Seriously.
I'm not stalking you! ;)
Ooh!
Bella!
By the way, is it alright if I copy your lovely recipes?
I'm loving your second one. =)
*drools a little*
Bella, I hope you and your family are well!
And Happy Easter :)
Bellll-aaaaahh!*Marlon Brando voice* ;)
Just wondering if you've been by, Bella. I recalled one other Easter you spent time in the Vatican City, so just wondered whether you may be out of town?
*wanders off again, wondering*
